GTA 6 Online Multiplayer Is Pointed to a 2027 Launch

Twitch CEO points to a larger GTA 6 audience in 2027

Twitch CEO Dan Clancy said on September 17, 2026, that Twitch had held extensive discussions with Rockstar Games about GTA 6 and ways to involve creators. In comments reported by Bloomberg, Clancy predicted a major Twitch audience increase around GTA 6, followed by an even larger jump the next year when its multiplayer launches.

That statement places the expected multiplayer release in 2027, but it is not an announcement from Rockstar. Bloomberg and IGN both reported the timing as Clancy's expectation, while Rockstar has not confirmed either the year or the launch plan for the online mode.

Court filings support an online component, not a release date

Documents filed by Rockstar during the legal dispute over the firing of 34 developers have indicated that GTA 6 will include an online component. The filings do not establish what the next GTA Online will be called, how it will work, or when players can access it.

Rockstar has also remained silent about the PC version of GTA 6. As of September 17, 2026, the studio has not announced a PC release date, leaving both the multiplayer schedule and the PC launch point unresolved for players outside the currently discussed platforms.

Take-Two and Rockstar reportedly are not ready to explain the mode

The timing remains disputed by public comments from people close to the publisher. Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier said Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar were not planning to discuss the new GTA Online soon, while also clarifying that Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick had not given a specific multiplayer launch timeframe.

Take-Two still has a financial reason to maintain the existing GTA Online service. Notebookcheck reported that the company generated $6.7 billion in fiscal year 2026 revenue, including $5.2 billion from recurrent customer spending such as microtransactions, while game purchases and other sales contributed $1.4 billion.

The current evidence leaves players with a split timeline

Clancy's comments make 2027 the clearest outside estimate for GTA 6 multiplayer, but Rockstar's silence prevents it from being treated as a confirmed date. For players choosing a server or online game tonight, the practical result is that GTA 6 offers no confirmed multiplayer schedule yet, while the existing GTA Online service remains the supported option.

What this means for players

A 2027 multiplayer target would leave GTA 6's initial release and its online audience separated by time, but the lack of a Rockstar announcement means players cannot plan around that window. The unresolved PC date adds another unknown for anyone waiting to move from the current service.
